Just a note about relation to payment handler API:
the "modifiers" member of the PaymentRequestEvent comes from PaymentDetailsModifier. However, the algorithm [1] that describes how "modifiers" is populated (already) does not include displayItems. So I think no change is required to paymentHandler.
