Expanding the project and website launch #56

There are a few ways the project could be expanded:

  • Distributing devices with Vidify pre-installed (like Raspberry Pi's) and ready to use. This would be complicated to manage and setup, but it's usable on almost any TV.

  • Releasing an app for Android & iOS. This app would act as Vidify client (see Online/Local bridge to send Spotify data between devices #29), and would play the videos on the phone, a Smart TV, or a device like Chromecast. It could either be paid, or with ads with an option to remove them. It's way simpler than selling the devices, but many TVs are unable to do this.

  • The previous applications wouldn't fall under YouTube's fair use, so the previous solutions may have legal trouble. Another idea would be an app that sends the videos to a Smart TV with something like pychromecast, to use YouTube's app to play the videos. The audio synchronization feature wouldn't work with this, though.

They all require a working website, so this will have to be worked on in the future. It will also be useful to introduce Vidify to new users and have documentation hosted outside of GitHub. Here's a project to track the progress.

For now, if you would like to see this happening in the future, please leave a thumbs up 👍 or a comment!
