Teamtype enables real-time collaborative editing of local text files, in an editor-agnostic way.

Our current open-source funding from the Prototype Fund ended in November, so we're currently more in a "maintenance" phase. We're excited to see all of your contributions!

This release brings some new options and stability improvements.

Homebrew package

Teamtype is now packaged for MacOS in Homebrew, thanks to @chenrui333. You can install it using brew install teamtype.

Add option to use temporary directory as shared directory

Add a --temporary-directory command-line option, which will create a new temporary directory and use it as the shared directory. The temporary directory is removed on exit. The temporary directory is created in $XDG_CACHE_DIR/teamtype/, or if XDG_CACHE_DIR is not set in $HOME/.cache/teamtype/, or if HOME is not set in /home/$USER/.cache/teamtype/.

Make the username configurable

Teamtype uses the Git username as username by default, to display next to the cursors other people see.

We added a configuration value username which you can set in your .teamtype/config to override that name.
You can also use the command-line flag --username. If no username is provided or detected, "Anonymous" is used.

Thanks to @axelmartensson for adding a message telling the user which name will be used, and how to configure it, and to @anis for fixing a bug in our Neovim plugin related to this.

Allow configuring the Magic Wormhole relay

Using the new option --magic-wormhole-relay, you can now instruct Teamtype to use a custom relay server for Magic Wormhole. Eventually, we'd like to make all relay servers configurable, this is a first step. Thanks to @martengooz for contributing this!

Other improvements in this release

• Overall we have a higher stability when edits sent by the editor don't apply correctly: The daemon should not crash anymore, and we have fixed some Neovim edge cases that caused this.
• Opening a new file in Neovim caused a hickup between plugin and daemon, and caused a warning in Neovim that the file had been changed since it was opened. This is now fixed.
