Driven by the desire to upgrade our GR to MySQL to 8.4 we ran some tests and found the same issues as reported in issue #4727 and decided to try and contribute a fix.
Done on
v2.7branch which was still the default branch at the time. Should be transferable tov3.0branch.Built and tested locally against MySQL 8.4 as well as running it on our staging k8s cluster against MySQL 8.0.35.
