Currently you can't use --skip to skip certain LBA ranges while using DVD mode, unlike CD mode. This is helpful in situations where certain drives have trouble reading certain sectors, which is not an issue in other drives. This is mostly helpful with refine mode, since multiple drives with certain characteristics can be used to overcome areas of a disc that might stall other drives, making dump times take wayyyy too long (multiple days).
