  1. Bump version to 0.4.0 with volume-based storage engine 

    Update README with v0.4.0 persistence docs (sync modes, checkpoint
configuration, volume parameters). Add persistence tests for volumes
directory, multi-table types, batch insert, and transaction commit/
rollback across restart. Fix test cleanup for deep volume dirs.
