Sup!

I am Yarwin and I'm one of the godot-rust maintainers, the Rust bindings for the Godot game engine.

Most of my work is focused on providing the best possible experience to users of godot-rust.

I mean, it kinda sounds like truism but that's literally my modus operandi – like you know, watching what people are doing and what they do not, listening to feedback, finding pain points and analyzing what caused said pain points; making sure that jank is absolutely minimal; writing docs to make experience clear and easy; and of course providing tech support for anybody (usually via official discord). I think that it is my obligation as an engineer and the co-author.

Speaking of co-authors you might consider sponsoring Bromeon, TitanNano and Lili Zoey as well!!!

Most my godot-rust/gdext related work consist of

  • Long term maintenance, boring stuff that nobody else would want to do – you know, fixing bugs from the upstream, fixing bugs in the upstream, maintenance, digging in dependencies.
  • Bugfixing – making reproductions, checking them against multiple versions of Godot/godot-rust and summarizing my findings.
  • Analyzing what our users are doing, what Godot users are doing, and what people might want to do – what are the pain points, where the learned hopelessness is and what we can do to improve the experience significantly.
  • Implementing, testing and maintaining new features – it sounds silly, but quite often I needed a lot of iterations to come with the final, "right" implementation.
  • Writing, updating and checking docs. A lot of docs.

I really would like to contribute MORE to stuff I use or I'm interested in – like you know, the rustc, delta chat, servo or the Godot itself (all my contributions to Godot were either regression fixes, stuff reported by godot-rust users, or something related to the GDExtension maintenance) – but I'm heavily constrained by my very limited time and a full-time job >:[.

So, in short, by giving me money you will be able to:

  • Allow me to allocate more time & resources to my open source work (duh)
  • Allow me to allocate time for various side resources – tutorials, books, blogs – for Godot and godot-rust users.
  • Allow me to allocate more time & resources to open source work I would like to do.
  • Heavily contribute to my well being 😌 .

I also do make the music sometimes.

@Yarwin

This amount would be enough to cover my monthly expenses and would allow me to focus on my open-source work
