was there a yaml lib change in ruby 2.1 that necessitates some other changes in the project or was that in 2.2?

Don't know. Just noticed that Debian Jessie has Ruby 2.1 installed and that the dashboard worked with it.

I think it must be 2.2 actually 2.4!; I was trying to configure it to work under 2.2 2.4 and ran into that.

The current documentation was lacking some information needed for easy installation. I haved tested this with Debian Jessie.
