One of our goals is to improve the stability of our network stack, and we strongly suspect that we'll want a new TCP implementation. Getting the descriptor and networking code to a point where we can support alternative descriptor implementations will not only allow us to implement a new stack, but also allow us to more gracefully transition from the existing one. We'll need to disentangle the existing code and refactor the design to improve its modularity.
