Why Shutterstock Downloader

Shutterstock offers a massive catalog of stock media, but downloading licensed assets can involve repetitive clicking through confirmation pages, selecting sizes, and managing separate downloads for each file type. When you need to pull a batch of images from a lightbox or grab several video clips from your purchase history, the process quickly becomes tedious, especially if you are working across projects that each need dozens of assets.

Shutterstock Downloader is being designed to remove that friction by integrating directly into the browser. The extension will detect your active Shutterstock session, recognize assets you have licensed, and let you save them to disk with fewer steps. Whether you are pulling a single hero image or exporting an entire collection, the goal is to keep you on the Shutterstock site and out of repetitive download menus.

Planned Features

  • One-click download of licensed photos, vectors, and illustrations from asset pages
  • Video clip downloading with resolution selection for HD and 4K content
  • Music and sound effect track export from the Shutterstock audio library
  • Batch download support across search results and curated lightboxes
  • Automatic file naming using Shutterstock asset metadata such as title and ID
  • Folder organization that separates images, vectors, video, and audio automatically
  • License history detection so the extension recognizes assets you have already purchased
  • Cross-browser compatibility targeting Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox

How It Will Work

  1. Install the extension once it is released.
  2. Open Shutterstock in your browser and sign in to your account.
  3. Navigate to any asset page, search results view, or your licensed content library.
  4. The extension will detect available downloads tied to your account.
  5. Open the extension popup to see a list of downloadable assets on the current page.
  6. Select individual assets or check multiple items for a batch download.
  7. Choose your preferred resolution or file format where multiple options exist.
  8. Start the download and files will be saved to your designated local folder.

Expected Formats

  • Images: JPEG, PNG, TIFF depending on the asset and license tier
  • Vectors: EPS, SVG as provided by Shutterstock for licensed vector content
  • Video: MP4 at various resolutions up to 4K, based on your license level
  • Music: MP3 or WAV depending on the track and license type

All exported files will retain their original quality as delivered by Shutterstock and will be compatible with standard editing tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and general-purpose media players.

Use Cases We're Building For

  • Download an entire lightbox of approved assets before a design sprint
  • Pull all licensed video clips for a project into a single local folder
  • Save music tracks and sound effects for a podcast or video series
  • Archive purchased vectors and illustrations for reuse across future campaigns
  • Quickly grab high-resolution images during a content creation session without leaving the browser

Does it work with free Shutterstock previews? No. The extension is designed to download assets that you have already licensed or that are included in your active subscription. It does not bypass Shutterstock licensing.

What image resolutions will it support? Resolution options will match what Shutterstock provides for your license tier, ranging from small web-ready sizes to full-resolution originals.

Will it preserve file metadata? The plan is to retain asset titles, contributor names, and Shutterstock IDs in the file names or embedded metadata where the information is available from the page.

Is it free? Pricing details will be announced closer to launch. SERP extensions typically include a free trial period.

Can I download assets in bulk from search results? Batch downloading from search results and lightboxes is a planned feature, though the exact workflow will depend on browser limitations and Shutterstock page structure.

About Shutterstock

Shutterstock is a leading global stock media marketplace offering hundreds of millions of photos, vectors, illustrations, video clips, and music tracks. It serves creative professionals, businesses, and media organizations with licensable content for commercial and editorial use. While Shutterstock provides its own download workflow, managing large volumes of assets across different media types can be slow and fragmented. Shutterstock Downloader is being built to give licensed users a faster, browser-native path from discovery to local file.
