The news section seems rather outdated, apart from the first item which gets generated automatically.
We should either be better at keeping it up-to-date, or remove it?

We don't do that anywhere else. It's just too much effort to keep track of everything in all repos. So I can remove it.

Fixes #3525.
The autogenerated notes in GH go back till v0.12 from Feb. 2022. I think that is long enough that people don't care about older notes.
