@wjwwood This sounds a bit outdated, can it be closed?

There are a lot of connect pull requests that would need to be cleaned up as well. I don't know if any of this is valuable any longer, I think the task was never finished, but the code will definitely not easily be rebased at this point.

If you close it please resolve the other prs too, by closing them, e.g.:

I will left the rcl issue opened, just in case we want to go back to it, but I'm going to close the old PRs for now.
