[BUG]: Monumentally slow, hung at 7%, when cancelled failed with SHA-256 mismatch #1318

Description

What happened?

It took half an hour to get 7%, and it never advanced beyond that. I let it continue for another half hour, still at 7%. I then did a cancel write, at which point it reported "Download appears to be corrupt. SHA256 hash does not match." (Did it know that half an hour ago and didn't tell me? Or is that unrelated to the hangup? Is the mismatch report a bug in cancel write? Who knows.)

I tried flashing twice more, with the same results. (Except I wasn't as patient those times after it hung at 7%.)

It also admonished: "check your network connection". It's not my connection. I get flawless 1.25 Gbps up and down with 3 ms ping times. I just downloaded the 2GB image I need in a few minutes (the 32-bit full OS), and verified it with xz -t. It's good.

However I don't see any way to flash that perfectly good image, instead of apparently slooowly pulling the same image from the interwebs. I also don't see any way to flash an image to a file instead of an SD card, which is what I would try to take the SD card out of the equation.

After that ordeal, I found 1.9.6 on github and downloaded it instead. With that, I just flashed my SD card, no fuss. It completed the entire process in 12 minutes. And it was pulling the image from the interwebs. I'll be using that instead for the indefinite future. I don't have time to be a beta tester.
