Requests v2.25.x will be the last release series with support for Python 3.5.

Hey @hugovk,

Thanks for the PR! I think we're unlikely to release Requests 2.26.0 prior to urllib3 2.0's release. That may mean this PR sits unmerged for quite a while.

We also have a standard deprecation process for this that will be done at release time to clean up any remaining deprecation items. I think in general we're less likely to accept PRs with cleanup tasks like this.

Resolving as this was handled with the final changes for 2.26.0. Thanks again for being proactive with this, @hugovk.
