Part of #13105

As proposed on community meeting by @gouthamve it would be nice to show the numbers to make it more compelling to adopt and generally verify our assumptions.

We obviously did benchmarks already to find the best solution, but we might want to do clean ones, perhaps combine it with the work towards new optional compression.
