Is permission READ_PHONE_STATE required? And for what is it used?

Hi there,

we are planning to integrate this SDK into our 10 million times downloaded android app but don't want GooglePlays auto-update to break, because of that permission (that we did not need until now).

Are we free to remove it and can we expect the PayPal SDK to work properly anyways?
