It seems that the placeholder is never visible when the textarea is empty.
You can reproduce this by simply clearing the content of any demo on the home page.

By disabling the two properties color: transparent !important; in two .overtype-input rules, we can see the placeholder.
It might be a good idea to make this transparent color conditional on the text area not being empty.
