v1.2.0 - Set Your Story Free

This is a massive update for Storyteller. While previous versions focused on building your world, v1.2.0 is all about getting your story out there and seeing it in a whole new light. We’ve also completely overhauled the reading experience and opened the doors to non-English speakers.

Export Everywhere

Your words shouldn't be trapped in the app. We have introduced a comprehensive export system so you can take your manuscript wherever it needs to go. You can now export your entire book (or parts of it) to:

  • PDF (Print ready)
  • EPUB (For e-readers)
  • DOCX (For editors)
  • Markdown & TXT (For the purists)

Flip-Book & Preview Mode

Writing is one thing, but reading your own work requires a different mindset.

  • Flip-Book View: We’ve added a beautiful, paginated flip-book mode. You can now "read" your draft just like a finished novel.
  • Chapter Preview: Want to check the flow of a specific chapter? You can now preview single chapters in isolation without generating the whole book.

Storyteller Goes Global

We believe stories belong to everyone.

  • Multi-Language Support: The entire interface (Welcome pages, Settings, Home) is now translatable.
  • RTL Support: We’ve polished the Right-to-Left experience (Hebrew/Arabic), fixing layout issues to make it feel native.

UI/UX Redesign

The Dashboard got a glow-up.

  • New Home Page: A cleaner, more organized starting point.
  • Visual Stats: The Book Overview now includes comprehensive statistics.
  • Series & Books: Redesigned cards with clear status icons and a better grid layout.
  • Navigation Cleanup: We moved the World and Character pages out of the top navbar to give you more breathing room.

Timeline & Writing Improvements

  • Scene-Based Dates: We realized that Chapters don't happen at a single moment Scenes do. We removed chapter dates and replaced them with Scene Start/End dates for granular timeline control.
  • Timeline Upgrades: You can now view single chapters on the timeline and see scene statuses (Draft, Revised, etc.) directly.
  • Sync Magic: Editing a character's details in one window now instantly updates that character's info in all other open windows. No more refreshing!

We are excited to announce version 1.1.0 of Storyteller! This release brings major additions to world-building with the new Timeline and Relationship systems, alongside a complete overhaul of the FileTree and Workspace interactions.

New Features

Smart Timeline System

  • Brand New Timeline Page: A fully automated timeline that visualizes your story's chronology.
  • Auto-Detection: The system automatically detects and plots dates such as Birth and Death.
  • Contextual Events: It also intelligently identifies events based on relationships, such as automatically marking when a child was born based on parent connections.

Character Relationships

  • Relationship System: You can now officially link characters together to define family trees, friendships, and rivalries.
  • Gender Support: Added a specific field for Character Gender (how could we forget?).

Organization & Workflow

  • Archive System: Added the ability to Archive Books and Series to keep your dashboard clean.
  • Window State Keeper: The app now remembers your window size and position between sessions.

Enhancements & Quality of Life

Workspace & FileTree Overhaul

  • Expanded Workspace Tabs: You can now open all document types in the main workspace tabs, including Characters, Locations, and Objects - not just chapters.
  • Context Menus: Added Right-Click Context Menus for Characters, World, and everything else in the FileTree for faster management.
  • Quick Actions: New "Plus" (+) buttons added to the FileTree to instantly create Chapters, Scenes, Characters, and Worlds/Locations/Objects.
  • Reordering: You can now reorder Worlds, Locations, Objects, and Characters in the FileTree. This includes moving characters between different Roles.

Writing Interface

  • Word Count Setting: Added a new setting to toggle word count display in the text editor.
  • Scene Management: Added buttons for Scene Deletion and Status Changes directly in the UI.
  • Chapter Page: Now displays Scene Status indicators.

Settings & UI

  • New Settings Page: A completely redesigned settings area with detailed update information.
  • Character View Mode: Introduced a new default "View Mode" for character pages for better readability.

Bug Fixes

  • Security: Fixed a security issue in the Tiptap editor.
  • Ordering: Fixed an issue where Character Role order was not saving correctly in the FileTree.
  • Settings: Fixed a bug where settings were occasionally not loading.
  • Spellcheck: Added/Fixed settings for Spellcheck functionality.
  • Update modal: Fix overflow in the update model.

v1.0.0 - The First Chapter

After a lot of late nights and coffee, I'm incredibly excited to share the very first public release of Storyteller

It's the foundation. It's fast, local-first, and completely open source

What’s actually in this release?

  • Project Management: You can finally organize books by Series. Drag and drop books between series, or keep them standalone.
  • The Workspace: A tab-based system that actually works. Open your Chapter on the left, and your Character Sheet on the right. No more window switching
  • World Building: Dedicated databases for Characters, Locations, and Items. You can link these conceptually in your head while you write
Writing: A clean, distraction-free implementation of TipTap. It's snappy and saves to a local SQLite database (so you own your data).
  • Auto-Updates: The app will let you know when new features drop

This is just the start
Please give it a spin and let me know what breaks (or what you love) in the Issues tab

Happy writing! ✍️
