NVDA alpha does not speak single letters when editing text with speech viewer enabled #10741

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run the latest Alpha build of NVDA.
  2. Enable the speech viewer utility by checking the item from the tools menu of the NVDA menu.
  3. Open a text editor like notepad and write some text.
  4. Try to navigate letter by letter using the left and right arrows.

Actual behavior:

NVDA stays silent and does not report the character that the cursor reached

Expected behavior:

NVDA should report characters in the same way it does when the speech viewer utility is not enabled

System configuration

NVDA installed/portable/running from source:

Portable, but getting the same results with the installed copy

NVDA version:

alpha-19604,7773e8ff

Windows version:

Windows 10, version 1909

Yes

Have you tried any other versions of NVDA? If so, please report their behaviors.

The issue cannot be reproduced on 2019.3 beta 4
