Currently, VIP's are not "pingable", see #23855 (comment). This may be "by design", but will confuse a lot of users, and makes debugging more difficult.

Also, all our existing documentation uses ping to illustrate how container networks work; none of those examples could be used when working in swarm mode (e.g. https://docs.docker.com/v1.11/engine/userguide/networking/work-with-networks/)

Is there a technical limitation that we don't support this?
