Code:

import mlflow
from mlflow import MlflowClient

mlflow.set_tracking_uri("http://localhost:5000")
client = MlflowClient()

experiment_name = "simple_dataset_demo"
experiment = mlflow.get_experiment_by_name(experiment_name)
if experiment is None:
    experiment_id = mlflow.create_experiment(experiment_name)
else:
    experiment_id = experiment.experiment_id

dataset = client.create_dataset(
    name="simple_qa_dataset",
    experiment_id=[experiment_id],
)
print(f"Created dataset: {dataset.dataset_id}")

records = [
    {"inputs": {"question": "What is MLflow?"}, "expectations": {"answer": "ML platform"}},
    {"inputs": {"question": "What is Python?"}, "expectations": {"answer": "A language"}},
    {"inputs": {"question": "What is Docker?"}, "expectations": {"answer": "Containers"}},
]
dataset.merge_records(records)
print(f"Added {len(records)} records")

dataset = client.get_dataset(dataset.dataset_id)
df = dataset.to_df()
record_ids = df["dataset_record_id"].tolist()
print(f"Records in dataset: {len(record_ids)}")

# Use the new entity method instead of client method
deleted_count = dataset.delete_records([record_ids[0]])
print(f"Deleted {deleted_count} record")

dataset = client.get_dataset(dataset.dataset_id)
df_after = dataset.to_df()
print(f"Records remaining: {len(df_after)}")

REST API looks good. For Python API, I think we should be consistent with the existing pattern of creation/update.
