Not sure which bit of functoria is involved here, but FWIW:

mirage -f xxx.ml --help silently ignores non-existence of xxx.ml and just shows the basic help info. This is possibly ok when xxx.ml doesn't exist (though a preceding warning would be nice). It's confusing when xxx.ml does exist and one expects to see the help contain the key parameters etc.
