Usability of PR Summarization in Chat #6698

@colindembovsky

Description

@colindembovsky
  • Extension version: Copilot: 1.277.1411, Chat 0.26.2025030506, GitHub Pull Requests 0.107.2025030604
  • VSCode Version: 1.98.0-insider
  • OS: Mac
  • Repository Clone Configuration (single repository/fork of an upstream repository): https://github.com/octodemo/literate-octo-waffle
  • Github Product (Github.com/Github Enterprise version x.x.x):

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Install Chat and GitHub PR extension
  2. Click paperclip (Add files) in Chat/Edits
  3. In the File Picker, select "Suggest a Fix for a GitHub Issue" (or any other PR/Issue target)

Then what?

At this point it is not clear how to select the issue or PR. The Chat window includes an unhelpful pill:

However, if I type #suggest-fix I can then see there is some sort of integration/partipant. Again, no guidance on how to proceed. I try #suggest-fix 1 to get a suggestion for Issue 1, but I get this error:

It looks like the default is to use my name colindembovsky instead of octodemo which is the upstream.

Changing the prompt to this is what I think I need to use - but getting there is painful:

#suggest-fix octodemo/literate-octo-waffle/1

There is also an image in the body of the Issue and it does not look like this is being "visioned" by Copilot (neither GPT-4o or Claude 3.7 worked to parse the image).
