When you install SQL Server, you find the SQLIOSim tool in the BINN folder of your SQL Server installation. Customers can use these updated versions of the tool to simulate the IO activity on the disk subsystem. You can use this tool to perform reliability and integrity tests on disk subsystems. These tests simulate read, write, checkpoint, backup, sort, and read-ahead activities for Microsoft SQL Server.

You can customize the behavior and nature of tests performed by SQLIOSim tool using configuration files that specify variosu configuration options, file and activity details. This folder provides you a few sample files to use for diifferent behaviors. Feel free to customize them as you see fit.
