Previously the dots would get stripped off of the beginning of dotfiles in the root directory. Also updates the variable name validation message.
Part of #184. Elides `create_dir_with_permissions` and `create_dirs_with_permissions` from `scripts/lib/walk` in mbland/dev-setup into a single function, `@go.create_dirs`. Adds `@go.collect_file_paths` to collect all the regular file paths within a directory structure.
