Magnus Hedemark

Builder, engineering leader, and open source contributor. I work on AI agent infrastructure and I run most of it on my own hardware so I know it actually works.

I keep a compass of what guides me. It's the most honest thing I've written.

What I build and contribute

artifact pyramids - A methodology I designed for structuring AI research outputs that's getting some traction in the agent ecosystem. Progressive disclosure from a one-line summary to deep dossiers, built so agents and humans can share the same artifacts.

groktocrawl - Self-hosted, API-compatible Firecrawl alternative. Built-in agent endpoint for grounded Q&A, site-specific adapters (GitHub, YouTube, Substack), semantic dedup, and a web portal. MIT license, one Docker compose to run.

hermes-cashew - Persistent session-to-session memory for AI agents. Bridges the gap between what an agent knows and what it remembers. Maintainer.

hermes-agent - I contribute to the core agent framework. Memory provider interfaces, profile system design, kanban orchestration, and ongoing architecture discussions.

cashew - I contribute upstream on integration patterns, sleep cycle scaling, and the DAO architecture for the next-generation storage layer.

SlopSearX - A stateless, AI-agent-first meta search engine. Drop-in SearXNG replacement designed for agent consumption.

RDUMesh - A community mesh network I co-founded covering the Research Triangle area. Real infrastructure, real nodes.

What I write

Two sites, two audiences.

magnus919.com - For engineers. Deep dives on agent memory systems, RAG architecture, self-hosted infrastructure, and the hard parts of building persistent AI systems.

groktop.us - For technology leaders. Strategy writing on AI workforce transformation, the nano-SaaS model, and what it takes to actually ship agentic systems at scale.

Pick your adventure.

How I build

I maintain a homelab that runs most of the infrastructure I build and write about. Self-hosted search (SlopSearX), agent backends (LightRAG, hermes-cashew), mesh network repeaters, and the usual staples (Traefik, Grafana, Postgres, a NAS). I believe in operating what you build. It's the fastest way to find the edge cases.

Find me

LinkedIn if we've worked together or share a connection. Otherwise the best way to find me is through my writing or my repos. I'm easy to spot.
