Before saying yes, I would like you to read the source code of lsof and read
#70 .

To develop lsof, you need the knowledge of the kernel of the target OS.
If the kernel is updated, you have to catch up it.
You may have to use ifdefs to cathcing up the updated kAPI.
I found an interesting idea to measure the difficulties: '#if' dencity:
