Ted Mackereth

PhD · Astrophysicist → Data Scientist → Engineering Leader

LinkedIn   Location

Lead Developer and AI Engineer for Defined Benefit Solutions at Just Group, leading a team building platforms for defined benefit pension administration, and many other things. Before this: data scientist at OceanMind, a not-for-profit using satellite imagery and AIS vessel tracking to detect illegal fishing and labour exploitation at sea. Before that: a postdoc, and before that a PhD in astrophysics.

The connecting thread in my work is finding structure in messy data that matters — whether that's stellar spectra, fishing vessel behaviour, or the movement history of a pension scheme member.

🍴 GrubVote is my current side project - a streamlined app that gets groups organised for amazing food.

Alongside that: a Team Topologies restructure of the DB engineering team, a self-hosted OpenClaw AI assistant on a Hetzner VPS integrated with Home Assistant, and the usual pile of side projects that seem like good ideas at 1AM...

Elsewhere

Based in North Wales. Reasonable espresso, sourdough - the usual. Working up to running in the mountains (bit slow). Interested in AI consciousness in a way that occasionally spills into actual reading rather than just opinions.
