The Kobo sync upstream proxy should be optional. In many cases, it's not beneficial for users to have it enabled.
Why Would This Be Helpful?
Some users (like myself) do not have a need to have the kobo device interact with the upstream kobo store API at all. It would reduce a round trip to an external server and would make it somewhat simpler to debug Kobo sync issues to be able to disable it.
The proxy may also lead to duplicate books - when the same book exists in both Grimmory & Kobo.
