10-Inch - 8U - extended depth (14-Inch) #123

The moment I saw Jeff's video and found the project site I was hooked and started planning my build.

I had a mess of devices all tucked away in an armoire in my studio, basically some UniFi devices, a MacBook with a broken screen (which serves as my main docker server), some RPis (for Zabbix and Home Assistant), and a JBOD with 3.5 HDD for storage

I wanted something that would incorporate the laptop and JBOD so I built the rack with the 8U rails also for depth, which gave me exactly the space I needed to hold my MacBook on top and the JBOD behind the RPi's

I bought some rails and a patch panel from Amazon:

Then printed a combination of 3D parts from printables for the shelves and from Jared LabStack modules for the Raspberrys

I also designed a couple of shelves for the Laptop on top and after a lot of moving around the shelves to several positions to fit everything, here are a couple of pictures of the process and the final result, which fit perfectly on the space I had.

The printed parts were from different authors and not all exactly the same width it seems, but they fitted with some fiddling, also working on connecting everything once the devices were mounted also took some work.

Update: Troubleshooting the Ubuntu Server (Laptop with broken screen) if I lost ssh access for any reason was impossible, so I added a small monitor to the setup and a mini BT Keyboard
