This pull request is created by automatic cherry pick workflow
Please fill in the form below, and a flutter domain expert will evaluate this cherry pick request.

Issue Link:

What is the link to the issue this cherry-pick is addressing?

#184754

Impact Description:

What is the impact (ex. visual jank on Samsung phones, app crash, cannot ship an iOS app)?
Does it impact development (ex. flutter doctor crashes when Android Studio is installed),
or the shipping of production apps (the app crashes on launch).
This information is for domain experts and release engineers to understand the consequences of saying yes or no to the cherry pick.

Mac flavors_test_macos test may not pass in CI.

Changelog Description:

Explain this cherry pick:

  • In one line that is accessible to most Flutter developers.
  • That describes the state prior to the fix.
  • That includes which platforms are impacted.
    See best practices for examples.

< Replace with changelog description here >
[flutter/184754] When building using SwiftPM for iOS or macOS apps, the build may fail due to xcrun error.

Workaround:

Is there a workaround for this issue?

Disable SwiftPM

Risk:

What is the risk level of this cherry-pick?

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High

Test Coverage:

Are you confident that your fix is well-tested by automated tests?

  • Yes
  • No

Validation Steps:

What are the steps to validate that this fix works?

Run Mac flavors_test_macos in CI.

We use `pgrep` to kill any matching existing `xcrun xcodebuild
-resolvePackageDependencies` command. However, we did not specify that
it should match on arguments and therefore was only matching on process
name, killing other xcrun` commands.

Fixes flutter#184754.

Code Review

This pull request updates the pgrep command in xcodeproj.dart to include the -f flag for matching full argument lists and adjusts the corresponding test expectations. Feedback indicates that on macOS, passing multiple arguments to pgrep results in an 'OR' match, which could lead to matching and killing unrelated processes. It is recommended to join the command arguments into a single pattern string and update all test mocks accordingly.

high

On macOS, pgrep treats multiple arguments as separate patterns and performs an OR match between them. Since the command list starts with common strings like xcrun and xcodebuild, passing them as separate arguments with the -f flag will match any process on the system that contains any of those strings in its command line. This is likely to match unrelated processes (e.g., another concurrent Xcode build) and kill the wrong one.\n\nTo ensure that only the specific process with the exact set of arguments is matched, the command components should be joined into a single pattern.

Suggested change
final RunResult result = await _processUtils.run([
'pgrep',
'-n', // Select only the newest
'-f', // Match against full argument lists
...command,
]);
final RunResult result = await _processUtils.run([\n 'pgrep',\n '-n', // Select only the newest\n '-f', // Match against full argument lists\n command.join(' '),\n ]);

This test expectation needs to be updated to match the suggested change in xcodeproj.dart, where the command arguments are joined into a single pattern for pgrep -f.

command: <String>['pgrep', '-n', '-f', kResolvePackagesCommandList.join(' ')],

Similar to the previous comment, all pgrep mock commands in this test file should be updated to use a single joined string for the pattern when using the -f flag, to match the corrected implementation in xcodeproj.dart.

My Codemagic build on flutter 3.44.0-1.0.pre-169 (both beta and main) get this error.
Seems to be related to this issue.
Because when using ssh session and running manually the command sh -c '/Applications/Xcode-26.4.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/xcodebuild -sdk /Applications/Xcode-26.4.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS26.4.sdk -find clang 2> /dev/null' works and returns correct path but fails right after building. No issues on flutter stable.
