Thanks for the report. I reproduced the gap: update --global was parsing the flag but still falling through to local project discovery, so it failed before looking at the global install dir.

I opened https://github.com/endevco/aube/pull/840 to fix it. The PR routes aube update -g through the global install index, updates each global install in place, and relinks the global bin shims afterward. It also adds a regression for running aube update -g from a directory without a package.json.
