Ok, this is admittedly reverting back to some of what you had initially, but I've also added a couple of other thoughts:

I'm thinking we should settle on a unique icon to indicate runtime fields throughout Kibana. @MichaelMarcialis recently proposed one for Lens/Discover field list, and I've used it below. It would need added to EUI, obviously, but we could either wait for that or pick a temp/existing icon, if necessary.

Changes being proposed in this mockup include:

• An icon to identify a runtime field
• A tooltip for explaining both what the icon means (runtime field) and any nuances you deem necessary.
• The ability to filter to runtime fields. Here, I'm proposing a swtich
• In the same row as the switch, provide some additional information specific to this capability.

Thoughts? Happy to iterate on this further.
