Ubuntu 18.04 will reach End of Standard Support in April 2023, so we will have to upgrade the release build environment from 18.04 before its EOL.
However, just upgrading it to 20.04 may break the glibc compatibility with CentOS 7 (EOL: June 2024):
Breaking the glibc compatibility might be fine for containerd 1.7, but it might not be fine for containerd 1.6 LTS (EOL: February 2025).
