Selection glitch in Safari 26 #1627

Describe the issue
In some situations, when dragging selections in Safari 26, remnants of the previous selections remain visible.

The issue appears in Safari v26.0.1, and Safari Technology Preview Release 229, but not in Safari v18.6, or in Chrome or Firefox.
The previous selection elements are no longer present in the selection layer.
In the linked demo, I see the issue when the editor has 1000 lines, but not when it has 100 lines.
This feels like a Safari bug, so feel free to close this issue if it can't be worked around, but any clues as to what might be going wrong would be useful for reporting upstream.
