Thanks for getting started on this work. Unfortunately there is a slight issue with the logic here. Doing the sorting after adding the colors to the labels can result in incorrect ordering due to the ASCII escape sequences added to the label name to create the coloring. I think it should be straight forward to change this to do the sorting of the labels and then adding the coloring.

I chose a case insensitive sort instead of using
sort.Stringssince that's the way most people think of alphabetical sorting. There are faster ways to do the sort, but they are less clear. I chose the "slower" one for readability.fixes #7443
