nit, we should use random.choice(list(d.keys())). as it's faster, cleaner, and idiomatic. sorted() is O(n log n), unnecessary if we just want one random key.

might want to s/random.sample()/random.choice()/. the former is much more complicated than the latter in its implementation. anyway, it's not critical =)
