Ideally all leading * characters on commands at the MOS command prompt should be ignored. (This is how Acorn's MOS worked, as well as Arthur/RISC OS). One reason for this is that you can call MOS commands in the same way whether you're at the MOS command prompt or the BASIC prompt.
