A test to consider fishnet and edgegap hosting for personal projects. The project includes a very simple scene where players can swim around and interact with each other.
FishNet is an amazing framework. I find it easy to learn and use. When it comes to EdgeGap, it took me a bit to realize how to communicate with their API to deploy servers when I needed them. It is a very capable system as well. I didn't compare its price point to other similar services.
I learned so much from this test. Having only used Normcore multiplayer in the past, this felt like a very necessary forray into dedicated hosting in order to understand the topic. Personally, I find that dedicated servers are incredibly useful in multiplayer games. A distributed datastore setup, such as Normcore, doesn't quite meet all of the features needed for competitive multiplayer.
