Will this allow me to change the unit to F_nu or does this mean it can only accept units of type length?

default_unit shows the unit with which the model works internally. default_equivalencies defines the possible equivalencies to use.
If you pass a quantity the first thing it does is convert to default_unit and then takes its value. So if you have to provide the equivalency.
