What would you like?
What
Add a visual CW pitch centering indicator integrated into the filter bandwidth display.
This would show:
The CW pitch (filter center)
The relative position of the received signal within the filter
Why
In CW operation, precise tuning to the operator’s pitch is critical, especially in weak signal conditions, pileups, and contesting.
Radios like the Elecraft K3 provide a very effective visual reference where the signal can be quickly centered within the filter (e.g. 200–400–200 Hz layout). This reduces reliance on audio-only tuning and improves speed and accuracy.
How
Add a vertical center marker representing CW pitch
Add a dynamic indicator showing signal offset from pitch
Optional: change color or highlight when perfectly centered
UI Placement
Preferably integrated directly within the CW filter bandwidth display (similar to Elecraft K3), rather than as a panadapter overlay.
Protocol / Implementation hints
Use FFT peak detection within the CW filter range
Compare peak frequency to configured CW pitch
Map offset visually within the filter width
Could reuse existing filter visualization layer
Additional context
This is a small UI addition but has a high impact on usability for CW operators, especially those coming from high-end radios like Elecraft.
I’ve attached reference images:
An Elecraft K3 example showing how the signal centering is displayed within the filter bandwidth
A screenshot of AetherSDR where I highlighted (in yellow) the area where this feature could be integrated
These visuals should help clarify the concept and possible UI placement.
