Breaking changes

We are writing to inform you that as of 2025-08-18 all GitHub-hosted runners in public repositories using the Windows Server 2025 image will again have a D:\ drive accessible to users. The working directory on the runner will change from C:\ to D:\
This reverses the change made as per announcement #12416

Target date

Image deployment will start on 2025-08-18 and will take 2-3 days

The motivation for the changes

• This will eliminate the performance issue faced by users after D:\ was removed.
• Allow users the extra space that was available with D:\

Possible impact

• The working directory will change from C:\ to D:\
• Users will be able to use D:\ drive again
