Content and Excerpt Blocks: Add indent controls mirroring paragraph's Global Styles setting #76536

Description

Problem

The Paragraph block recently gained an Indent setting in Global Styles, which is a welcome addition. However, the Content and Excerpt blocks — which render body text in contexts where indentation is equally relevant — do not expose this control. The only way to apply indentation to these blocks today is through the global Paragraph setting, which affects every paragraph in the theme, making targeted indentation impossible.

Proposed Solution

Bring the same Indent control available on the Paragraph block in Global Styles into the Content and Excerpt block settings, both at the Global Styles level and in the block inspector panel. This allows designers to set indentation scoped specifically to these blocks without it cascading theme-wide.

Expected Behavior

  • An Indent control appears in the Global Styles panel for the Content and Excerpt blocks, mirroring the existing Paragraph implementation
  • The same control is accessible per-block in the inspector panel for local overrides
  • Indent settings on Content and Excerpt are independent from the global Paragraph indent setting
  • When no indent is set on these blocks, they inherit from the global Paragraph setting as a fallback, maintaining backward compatibility

Why This Matters

Indentation is a meaningful typographic choice in long-form reading contexts, precisely where the Content and Excerpt blocks live. Being able to apply it selectively to these blocks, without forcing it onto every paragraph in the theme, gives designers the right level of control.
