Since the normally square song cover images have some ugly colored bars added to the sides in their thumbnail form, the "crop if necessary" option is best for songs. On videos on the other hand, cutting the thumbnails can look weird and lose important information. Since it's an advanced feature already I think it'd be best to hard code this and not have it be configurable.
