To set up StudyCompass locally:

Install dependencies
Run the following command in the project root to install all required npm packages:npm install -
Configure environment variables
Create a.envfile in the project root and add your Gemini API key:GEMINI_API_KEY=gemini_api_keyNote: If no NEO4J_URI is found, the app will use the db_emulator.json

(Optional) Connect to your own Neo4j database
- By default, the app uses a generated database emulator (
/lib/db_emulator.json). - To connect to your own Neo4j instance, update the following environment variables in your
.envfile:NEO4J_URI=your_neo4j_connection_string (e.g., bolt://localhost:7687) NEO4J_USERNAME=your_username NEO4J_PASSWORD=your_password

Run the development server
npm run dev
The app will be available at http://localhost:5173 (or the port shown in your terminal).
Note: The data used in the Neo4j database (and the generated
/lib/db_emulator.json) is based on the sample student data generation from this repository. The data has been adapted and expanded for demonstration purposes in StudyCompass.
