What would you like to be added?
I would like Qwen Code to support localized slash-command descriptions, especially for non-English UI languages such as Chinese.
This enhancement would include:
- localizing built-in slash command descriptions and related help text
- supporting runtime translation for dynamic command descriptions loaded from bundled skills, workspace/file-based commands, and MCP prompts
- caching translated dynamic descriptions per language to avoid repeated translation work
- providing a way to refresh or clear the cache when command content or language settings change
This would make slash commands feel much more consistent with the rest of the localized UI.
Why is this needed?
Currently, the UI language can be localized, but slash-command descriptions are still partially English, especially for dynamically loaded commands.
This creates several problems:
- the command list feels inconsistent in non-English UI modes
- built-in commands may be easier to understand than dynamic/custom commands
- MCP prompts and workspace commands are less discoverable for users who do not primarily use English
- dynamic descriptions may require repeated translation without a cache, which can add unnecessary latency and cost
Adding localized slash-command descriptions with lightweight per-language caching would improve usability, consistency, and command discoverability.
Additional context
I have already implemented a prototype for this direction in my fork.
The prototype includes:
- expanded Chinese i18n coverage for slash commands and related UI/help text
- runtime translation support for dynamic command descriptions
- per-language cache persistence for translated command descriptions
- cache refresh and clear support from the language command flow
If this proposal aligns with the project direction, I can open a PR based on this implementation.
Below are before/after screenshots of the slash-command list in Chinese UI mode:
- Before: built-in and dynamic command descriptions are still partially English
- After: command descriptions are localized in Chinese and feel consistent with the rest of the UI
