• I have tested the latest development version from http://builds.jabref.org/master/ and the problem persists

Since some snapshot versions, starting jabref after starting windows ends with no display at all, all I see is an empty window at the taskbar. The remedy for this is to start an old version of jabref (4.1) and closing it. Thereafter Jabref 5.0dev snapshot starts without any problems.
