overall, a helpful simplification that I think will support wearers and developers in understanding what's going on in the protocol, and avoid unexpected behaviors

This fix looks good. I'm not sure it's a problem that requires a fix, but if you prefer it this way, this definitely solves the concern brought up in the report. |
