Description of the desired feature

The -s common option is allowed for the following modules, but is only documented in the command line usage messages and not the html documentation, which is built from restructured text (ReST) files. This task is to document the -s common option for the following:

• sample1d module: sample1d.rst (@idellio77)
• rose module: rose.rst and rose_common.rst_ (@meghanrjones)
• histogram module: histogram.rst and histogram_common.rst_
• spectrum1d module: spectrum1d.rst (@BeckySalvage)
• grdmask module: grdmask.rst (@srijac)
• gmtselect module: gmtselect.rst: (@meghanrjones)
• gmtsplit module: gmtsplit.rst: (@obaney)
• gmtconnect module: gmtconnect.rst
• sphinterpolate module: sphinterpolate.rst (@arleaman)
