Who We Are

Ginawaydaganuc Village (GV), founded in 2022 in Almonte, Ontario, is an Indigenous-led non-profit dedicated to building a traditional Indigenous Elders' Teaching Lodge, and an eco-sensitive educational and tourist center. Rooted in cultural heritage and guided by self-sufficiency, sustainability, and community empowerment, we are committed to creating opportunities that pave the way for the next seven generations.

“Ginawaydaganuc,” is an Algonquin word meaning “we/all things are connected,” that was taught to us by the late Algonquin Elder William Commanda and reflects our deep connection to Mother Earth, the cosmos, and each other. This principle guides everything we do - from fostering inclusivity and healing to embracing environmentally conscious practices.

Inspired by medicine wheel teachings, GV’s structure centers around the Elder’s Lodge and GV Academy, surrounded by a thriving, sustainable community that stands as a model for social and economic innovation, offering unique, life-changing experiences.

When complete, GV will consist of five main buildings, with an Elder’s Lodge in the centre, surrounded by a welcome centre, the academy, accommodations, a restaurant, and retail space to carry educational course materials, construction equipment, school and ceremonial supplies, and gifts.

About The Project

Guided by Indigenous Elders and knowledge keepers from a variety of different nations, GV's multi-faceted plan will provide a non-political space for people from all nations to gather, learn and heal. We plan to offer our programs for free to Indigenous people and for a fee for the rest of the general public. We will also have a focus on special programming for marginalized and vulnerable populations, including low-income families, children aging out of social services, victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse, those suffering from FASD (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) and other developmental delays. A key focus will be Indigenous youth from remote reserves who we hope will benefit greatly by our integration and bridge-building programs, as well as the opportunity to bring home much needed housing construction methods that utilize locally sourced materials.

GV aims to set a positive example with its use of environmentally proactive construction modalities (such as living green roofs, Sirewall, cordwood masonry, hempcrete, strawbale, solar and much more) to create short-term lodging, healthy cuisine opportunities, retail space, social gathering and workshop space.

We plan to invite Elders from Indigenous communities all over Turtle Island as instructors in our traditional Elder’s Lodge where they will provide support and Indigenous teachings, and educational opportunities that promote social well-being and sustainable living and working practices.

The project will also support and create opportunities for individuals and businesses who are developing products and services to assist mankind's efforts to harmonize with the environment. In this way, we hope to help repair and prepare the way for the seven generations to come.

The project is slated to be built in eastern Ontario within the next 2-4 years.
